i'm aware i asked this a few months ago, but now i actually have materials to get started, so i'm asking again:

does anyone know how to sew? hand stitching, specifically. i now have really nice cotton (thank you, delight!!!) that we can make clothes with

right now, we have a bolt of white cotton fabric. if you want a different color, tell delight a happy memory, and she'll give us more fabric. but don't, like, dogpile her or anything. be nice, for fuck's sake

[Emily, who are you to talk about being nice...................]

if you're interested in sewing, meet me here: [and she attaches an image of a map with one of the shops circled]

[Carlisle pauses as he prepares to cut the fabric. Of all the questions involving tailoring that Carlisle had been prepared to answer, that was not one of them. He glances down at his chalk.]

Well, white wasn't going to show up on white, now was it?

Ah. I simply conjured some colored powder into my hand and used it to shift the color of the chalk. It's fairly basic magic where I'm from, sort of a minor form of transfiguration. Anyone with basic spellcrafting and a little bit of alchemical knowledge could probably do it.

[That was a lot more words than he probably needed for that answer.]
tongueamok: (➣ that's just how it was)

So I have been told. [By Chris, actually.] It's hard to feel extraordinary when such skills are commonplace, but I appreciate the sentiment.
tongueamok: (➣ we. have. been over this.)

[He opens his mouth for an immediate answer, but pauses with a puzzled look.]

I... honestly don't know?

[He says that as though the thought itself is incredulous.]

I don't know if the magical energy I know to manipulate is intrinsic to my world or not. Learning to harness it is usually started at a young age, but I don't see why an adult couldn't learn glyphcrafting or alchemy.
tongueamok: (➣ i have to keep some secrets)

Now that I kind of have an answer on this!

Well, I can do magic as I need, but for someone to learn, I would have to look into it. I do have a book on alchemy in my apartment. Perhaps when I get back, I'll take a look and see if there's a way I could convey its lessons to you.

[He pauses for a second, thinking.]

I already know what he hard part will be: finding reagents.
tongueamok: (➣ one of the many things i know)

Ah, no, unfortunately. I'm not sure they'd sell such things here, and the library seem to be completely useless. It's one from back home, an introductory tome penned by famed alchemist Pendlebrook Brimstone. I even managed to get an autographed copy.

[He says that with the proudest grin as he starts cutting the fabric.]
