[Newt is in Hope's Temple. He is Pissed. In fact, it's almost possible to say he's gone all the way into Angry.]

Listen up, so there's this giant triangle-headed asshole dragging an enormous cleaver around. His name is Pyramid Head, and if he catches you, he will rip your skin off, disembowel you, and then play with your insides. For fun. Trust me, avoid him at all costs. Stay in a temple if you need to. In fact, considering how much more fucked up this place just got, I'd even recommend it at this point. This guy is way faster than he looks and he has zero mercy for anyone. It doesn't matter how powerful you think you are, Pyramid Head will rip you in half. Literally.

[his expression darkens even furth, if at all possible]

And for the idiot who pulled him in here? Fuck you. Fuck you and fuck whatever you were trying to accomplish because dragging fuckING PYRAMID HEAD IN HERE [yep we have gotten up to a yell, ladies and gentlemen, that sure is a bunch screechy yelling] WAS NOT A SOLUTION!

[and the screen goes dark as he hangs up]

[Maketh has no time to approach this emotionally, so she goes straight for the facts.]

Can it be killed or slowed down?

[Newt's running a hand through his hair, agitated] Slowed down? Yes. Killed? Not that I've seen. And I've seen this thing hit with a variety of tough stuff, from super powers to magic to guns and swords.

Can it breach the temples?

[This could be bad. Maketh hasn't had time to rope anyone into digging tiger pits, which might actually slow the thing down long enough to come up with a better plan. The best she can think of now is avoiding it.]

That, I don't know. [Newt's mouth thins as he leans back, folding his arms over his chest] Lilith fired something at it and we got away by the skin of our teeth. I dunno if it followed us, but I'll let you know if it shows up.

The last place I was, it couldn't enter the houses, but I have no clue if that applies here.

I hope it doesn't come to that.

[It won't end well. They're backed into a corner and the monsters have them boxed in on all sides. The Guard simply doesn't have the manpower to drive them back.]

[he huffs, rubbing a hand over his face]

Listen, though--we didn't find too much in the tunnels, but I'll write you up a report anyway in like...an hour or something. I need a minute.

All right. [Maketh is careful to hide her disappointment.] I'll look through it when I have the time. Thank you, sir.

[Newt half-chokes on a laugh at that] Call me Newt. Or Dr. Geiszler if you have to. Sir is like...Hermann may be into that, but it weirds me out.

[Maketh gives him a little smile.] I forget sometimes. Not everyone is military.

[Newt winkles his nose a little bit] Well, I guess, technically PPDC is military. But I've never been that great at conforming to that stuff.

I don't think you've said. What does the PPDC do, then?

[he huffs, sitting back a bit] The Pan Pacific Defense Corps are basically an organization originally put together by world leaders to combat the kaiju, aka the giant alien monsters that are attacking Earth. That is, until the idiots decided that building a giant wall would be a great idea and decided to try that instead. [cue eyeroll]

[Maketh blinks, taking that in.] I see. I take it your world doesn't have space travel, then?

Nah. I mean, we've gone to the moon and there were plans to start on the next planet over but the kaiju kinda derailed that.

I suppose it would have. [Possibly? She still has trouble wrapping her head around this business of only having one planet. Surely it must be overcrowded.] It's become common place in my world, if that's of interest to you. Though I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to tell you very much. Engineering was never my specialty.

It definitely is! [hello yes you have Newt's attention] Are we talking interplanetary travel or intergalactic or what?

Both. [Maketh smiles a little. His enthusiasm is...endearing.] I was born on a place called Lothal, but I was trained on Mandalore. I served on several others before getting called to my final posting.

Holy shit, that's awesome. [uh oh he's really excited now, run Maketh.] What were they like? Were they in the same solar system? Were the residents humanoid or alien?

[he's grinning widely]

I've never been to another planet before!

[...huh. Apparently very enthusiastic. Maketh smiles. It's refreshing to find someone who truly wants to learn things.] They're in different systems. Lothal has a mixed population, though Mandalore is mostly human. Both are under Imperial control at the moment, or were when I...well, when I was there last.

Yeah? What are the non-humanoid life forms like on Lothal? Are they really mixed or are they generally all one species?

[that last bit makes him pause, though] Imperial control? What does that mean?

[it sounds familiar, but his mun is trying not to break the fourth wall so Newt's conveniently not going to remember anything he's ever read about Star Wars]

[Now more than ever, Maketh wishes her data pad hadn't been destroyed before arriving in Hadriel. There's so much information she could share with him, but at the moment she's stuck with only the facts she can remember off the top of her head.] It's quite mixed. I'd say the majority of the population is human or at least possessed of comparable physiology, as with most Imperial territories, but there is a wide spectrum of life - not counting the various hybrids, of course.

[She hesitates.]

Under the control of the Imperial Court. You could call them a dictatorship, I suppose. I--served them. In a different life.

[Newt listens with interest...until she gets to that last part. He blinks at that, startled.]

...is that still your thing? The dictatorship? [i.e.- is that what you are going for in Hadriel right now?]

No. [She hesitates, wondering if she ought to say more. Maketh has always tried to be honest about her past, lest the same mistakes take root once again.] I wish--to make amends, for what was done. I know that I cannot, but...I will protect these people. To whatever end.

Oh. [well, in that case--] Well, that's all that matters, then.

I don't attempt to hide what I was, or downplay it's impact. What's done was done. But I--I will perform my duty here with the utmost honor and dedication.
