It would seem that Hope has gathered the energy necessary to bring me back. I'm told that our new guests have had a say in it- if that is the case, then you have my thanks.

[There's a thoughtful pause before he continues.]

As a token of my gratitude, I have created an garden of food to lessen your burden on Hope. Both parties will benefit from its creation, and so I trust that it will be tended with respect.

It will grow as the week goes on and I return to my former strength. Do let me know if anything disagrees with your systems and I'll remove it.

Perhaps your knowledge of us is as limited as our knowledge of you.

Perhaps. Though it isn't because some of us aren't interested. You... or, at least, the others seem rather guarded with their information.

True. I cannot hold your lack of knowledge against you when my companions haven't been forthcoming with information.

Perhaps they thought it was better for you to think of us as immortal beings, created at the dawn of the universe. That seems like something Fear would want to spread around.

Seems like it. Appreciate a little more of the truth, if nothing else, so thank you. Am interested in you and this world, but the others haven't been very forthright and the library here is all but useless.

The others have been secretive for many reasons. I would be happy to explain what I can, but as I told another here, there are answers that I am not willing to give.

Can you tell us more about yourself? Who you are, what you did, how things were before you died?

I am Sorrow. I helped to guide the others through their disagreements and decided how to move forward with our civilization.

Things were peaceful for a very long time. The eight of us are still young for our kind, but I know that much.

No wonder things went to shit while you were gone.

Is there any chance that you can somehow mediate their disputes here and now? Am aware you said you were playing neutral in this, but their fighting amongst each other is hardly necessary.

How would you have me mediate? Tell me what the desired outcome is for you and your kind.

Suppose the desired outcome for most stuck here would be getting to go back to their own worlds. Don't really have a preference otherwise. Not sure what they're even fighting for, just that we're inconveniently stuck in the middle of it.

That is not my desired outcome at the moment.

As much as it would be easier for all of us if they worked together, Fear's lack of cooperation suits my needs, as does Hope's stubborn desire to protect you.

Because the result of those two forces clashing with one another tends to produce more sorrow?

More or less. I need you alive to continue to fuel us, and Hope cares strongly about keeping you that way. I need you frightened and suitably traumatized to continue gaining strength, and Fear excels at that.

[It might sound cold, but- well, it is. He's just being pragmatic about it.]

Their conflict forces them to make plays more often than they would otherwise. All of that is beneficial to me.

Then it would make sense why you choose a more objective stance in all of this.

Honestly, am surprised that Hope managed to make it this long.

He's more hardy than he's given credit for.
