Hm.

[Sorrow's voice is slow and stern, easily authoritative without any pretense or false airs.]

It would seem that Hope has gathered the energy necessary to bring me back. I'm told that our new guests have had a say in it- if that is the case, then you have my thanks.

[There's a thoughtful pause before he continues.]

As a token of my gratitude, I have created an garden of food to lessen your burden on Hope. Both parties will benefit from its creation, and so I trust that it will be tended with respect.

It will grow as the week goes on and I return to my former strength. Do let me know if anything disagrees with your systems and I'll remove it.

I believe that depends on your definition of a god.

What do you think you are?

I know what I am. I'm not omnipotent, nor am I all powerful. Clearly, none of us are. If that's what you believe a god to be, then your answer is clear.

What is a god, in your world?

It depends on who you ask. At first, I thought gods were the whispers of the trees and the teachings of the Seven. Then, I learned the teachings never mattered, but I still listened to the wind. But after I became a servant of Him of Many Faces, I learned that there is one god, in the end, who comes for us all. You and I would call him death.

Death is not a god.

[But he says it quietly, not at all condescending- yet.]

Death is a state of being. An idea. You are ruled by this concept, and so I suppose in some way, it would be a god to you- but there is no will behind it. I think that disqualifies it from godhood.

I see.

[ saying too much more would be sacrilege. Arya has to be careful. ]

We always spoke of it as a gift, and the lord of it, the giver. But perhaps death is different to you. After all, your kind do not die as easily as men.

We don't.

[That much is clear.]

You think death is a gift?

[ Damnit that's not much information at all. ]

Some deaths are. Have you never wished someone dead? Has no one ever wished you dead?

I'm sure they have. I'm sure some of you do now.

Has anyone wished you dead?

Some of us.

Many have. So I killed her first.

Admirable. One does what one must to survive.

[He shrugs.]

What if all of those people who wished you dead came for you? Could you kill them all first?

They're always coming for me.

[ Arya's lips curl bitterly, more of a grimace than a smile. She worries about that constantly. Arya wonders how much this Sorrow knows. ]

I don't know. I would try. But I wouldn't let them catch me in the first place.

They're not coming for you here.

[Not as far as he knows anyway. But Sorrow tilts his head a little, curious.]

And how would you hide?

They could, so long as the Door stays open. Or you can keep them from coming some other way.

[ Arya keeps looking at the camera, at Sorrow. She will not yield. ]

Wouldn't be a good strategy if I told you.

They could, but so far they haven't. Are you always this frightened of them?

[Probably not the best choice of words, there.]

True. You're smart, for a human.

I'm not frightened of them.

[ Arya says, frostily. She's not going to dwell on whether or not Sorrow is right. ]

What do you know of fear, anyway?

And yet you constantly believe they are coming for you, even here.

[By contrast, he's calm. Not pleasant, but amicable.]

I know something of it. One of my colleagues consumes it for power and I'd be a fool if I didn't know how it worked.

That's not being frightened. [ Arya says, irritated, like this is the most obvious thing in the world. ] It's called not lying to yourself.

[ Arya frowns. ]

I don't think you know what counts.

The odds are infinitely small that they would come here. You're more likely to die in plenty of other ways- so why does this make you so wary?

[He shrugs. She's free to think as she wishes.]

Your approval means little to me. I know what I've experienced, and that is enough.

Because I don't want them to kill me. I'm not afraid. I hate them.

Perhaps you haven't experienced enough.

[ irritated, Arya cuts the feed. ]
