First ☂ Voice
Hm.
[Sorrow's voice is slow and stern, easily authoritative without any pretense or false airs.]
It would seem that Hope has gathered the energy necessary to bring me back. I'm told that our new guests have had a say in it- if that is the case, then you have my thanks.
[There's a thoughtful pause before he continues.]
As a token of my gratitude, I have created an garden of food to lessen your burden on Hope. Both parties will benefit from its creation, and so I trust that it will be tended with respect.
It will grow as the week goes on and I return to my former strength. Do let me know if anything disagrees with your systems and I'll remove it.

voice
[Curtly.]
Though I do not begrudge your curiosity. I believe the Door is currently working as intended. Whatever original purpose it had- this is what it does now.
voice
It's only that we're ostensibly trapped here by it. When we've asked the way back in the past, the other gods did not know how. I hoped that you might.
voice
[Honest, maybe a little blunt.]
But sending you back now goes against my own goals. It's not the time for it yet.
voice
Except that it may also be more honest. That's a difficulty. ]
Are your goals in line with Hope's? He has always maintained he doesn't intend on keeping us here forever.
voice
[He hums, thoughtfully.]
Well, I don't much care what happens to you. It would be most advantageous for me if you all stayed forever, but I could be convinced otherwise, if the payoff is worthwhile.
voice
What is it that you want from us, then?
[ He might as well know what they're dealing with. ]
We are here against our will. It's not in our interests to be your prisoners forever. There must be a means by which we can end that arrangement.
voice
[Sorrow considers that, weighs it a little on his conscience, and then dismisses it.]
Once we've all returned, I suppose it remains to be seen. It's a scenario that has too many outcomes to plan for, and I don't enjoy making promises I'm not sure I can keep.
Re: voice
I appreciate that. [ Says Gansey, who feels much the same way about promises.
Hope, he conjectures, might well make a promise he didn’t know if he could keep, in order to ensure people kept feeling hopeful about it. Similarly, though, Sorrow might prefer to dash people’s hopes, therefore ensuring they felt sad. How much of what the gods say can actually be trusted, and how much is simple manipulation? ]
Which gods have yet to return? How many of you are there?
voice
[There's a pause, before he counts them off.]
Confusion, Tranquility, and Love.
voice
So, no Envy. No Worry, Shame, or Awe.
[ Why not? There are so many more emotions than those. Gansey couldn’t’ even name them all; where are the gods representing the rest? ]
How did…the eight of you, come to be?
voice
[We're going broad strokes here.]
Another Sorrow created me. The same goes for the rest of my companions.
voice
Yes, that...makes a kind of sense. What about the very first sorrow? Is there a...creator god, from whom all of you came?
voice
Not that I'm aware of. We don't keep records as extensively as your species. Many of us don't see the point.
voice
[ That's a great pity. Gansey tries not to let the fact of that leak into his voice. ]
So you aren't curious, then, about where you came from? Perhaps that obsession is more unique to humans than I thought.
voice
[Simply. Gansey's disappointment is not mirrored in Sorrow's tone, but it's a close thing.]
We are a long lived and simple species. I am personally attracted to our history, our artifacts, and our earlier years, but that kind of curiosity is... more of an anomaly. Most of what I know is information that has been passed down by direct communication; in order to find answers, I once sought out the older members of our species to hear from them.
voice
Did you?
Well I certainly don't blame you. I thought that you were the eldest of your kind. Do you know what happened to them, the elder gods?
voice
[His tone is straightforward and blunt.]
The others are all likely dead.
Voice
[ Is there a limit to what Hope can do? Gansey has so far gotten the impression the only limit is energy, and he gets that from people. ]
Voice
[He takes a deep breath, considering it.]
-a stretch. It's better to focus on the immediate task at hand than worry about something two impossibilities away from you.
