fourth. text.

In the interest of having it completed some time this century, I'm taking over the project to create a guide document for new arrivals.

[And he's starting it from scratch, no thanks to Chris.]

If you can tear yourselves away from telling ghost stories long enough to reply, I'm interested to know what information you found most helpful when you first arrived, as well as what you would have liked to know sooner rather than later.

Where to get a first square warm meal, and how to pick empty housing.

Maybe Hope's temple? If we can get a group who can orchestrate it.

Exactly. It would be good to find a way to pull together so those kinds of people don't have to fend exclusively for themselves- especially if they don't know anyone else around.

You're bright and mathematically inclined, aren't you?

Could you do them a favour and help put together some estimates on population size and the volume of food they need to produce?

I've been trying to build one but can't come up with an effective measure. The best thing to do might be check the network; there isn't that much content up yet, but everyone seems to have logged in at one point or another.

We should start tracking the number of people who come out of the colosseum exits monthly, see if we can track a pattern.

Yes. I can tell you exactly when the next wave is due. It's on the same date every month. We don't know what that date is, but we're in August, so thirty one days after the last one.

( her voice comes from the ward, not obscured by the sounds of changing bedsheets as she points out: ) You're in August. ( she is reasonably sure it hasn't been a year for her yet. )

We're in August. The first month was a wash, because the day/night cycle hadn't stabilized yet, and even though things were more regular we'll disregard the second to eliminate it as a possible source of error, but if you look at the number of days between the third wave and the fourth, that was thirty one, then again, thirty one, twenty eight, thirty one, thirty, thirty one, then thirty, thirty one. The twenty eight is the dead give away. We don't know what day of the month it is, but we know it's August.

More evidence- the second and third month we had snow and we were attacked by yetis.

If it were random, what would the odds be of seeing that exact sequence? Coupled with the approximately matching seasons.

It's a question of hearing hoofbeats.

Should have told Fear that. ( she mutters it quietly enough that it probably won't be heard over the snap of sheets as she shakes them out. fucking early halloween, seriously? working in this place by flickering torch and candlelight was a nightmare.

more loudly: )

How'd you figure that out? ( because trying to think of it is giving her a headache. so far, kate's been working off the door opening as a 'beginning' of the month.

more importantly, does she have to re-schedule her important dates or... )

Sorry to interrupt you, but I've actually been wondering about something like this. I saw an abandoned building that looks like it used to be a restaurant, and I thought if anyone here knew anything about renovating buildings, it could probably be fixed up to serve the community. I used to cook for my ship in the place where I was before, and I'd be happy to do that for everyone here.

I think this is an incredibly good idea. Both for the service it'll provide, and the connections it'll make between the people who work there together. It's a way for people who can't fight and can't do medical to get together and continue to contribute to the community, and to meet and know the people who will look out for them when trouble comes.

How would you begin organizing it? What are your first steps?

Probably just sending out a message to everyone here and asking if anyone would be able to help. Unless you have a better idea?

Thank you. I'm glad you think so. I'll definitely do that soon.
