one, text.

So this place is new and different. Which, considering the circles I run in back home, is kinda saying a lot.

Did you know the light in this cave gives off radiation similar, but not identical, to that of a yellow sun? I can't tell if it's tech I just haven't found yet or magic, but it feels really, really weird.

Just so I can brace myself--is everything here like that? Kinda like you're used to but just different enough that it makes your shoulder blades itch?

Finally someone around here with half an ounce of sense. For all the babbling about "magic", there's still no reason to actually believe it.

I would be willing to hear the argument against magic if it were not for the door.

Technology sufficiently advanced as to be beyond your comprehension. I'm certain that the "Door" falls within the same category.

hi hey hope you don't mind another threadjack

hey. uh, literal monster made of magic speaking here.
denial might be comforting, but it's a pretty poor substitute for empirical evidence.
einselective: (u what now)

I LOVE EM also it's a good thing this is text lmao

[personal profile] einselective 2017-01-18 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
You even call yourself a monster? Cute. What part of that has anything to do with so-called magic, if you'd care to elaborate?
skelebro: (you wanna explain my buddy chum pal)

[personal profile] skelebro 2017-01-19 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
uh, yeah. it's a species.
a species made of magic. pretty much exclusively.

Don't get me wrong, I can tell this is a new and duplicitous move to fool the simple-minded. Well done. I'm sure some people have already fallen for it.

But perhaps you can tell me exactly what qualities does this so-called "magic" have that could never possibly be explained by a sufficient amount of technological advancement and knowledge, if you're going to stick with that story?

[He doesn't say anything. He just switches on the video. And stares.

As skeletons go, he looks pretty friendly. A cartoonishly rounded face, a wide grin, a ratty blue hooded jacket and a white T-shirt draped around a frame that contains considerably more girth than a skeleton's meant to.

You were saying?]

[Somewhere out in the city there's a horrified screech. Please enjoy this thread ICly dropped right along with her communicator because Marian is not prepared to deal with anything looking anything like that, not even if it has a friendly cartoony look.]

You could be right. But so could I.
einselective: (not this shit again)

Personally, I'd rather not encourage that kind of thinking. Calling it 'magic' and giving up on providing any reasonable explanation or searching for at least the logic behind it, even if full comprehension is beyond our understanding, is better than acting like a bunch of stone-age simpletons.

Pray tell, how exactly do you distinguish between "real magic" and unthinkably advanced technology?
