second; voice (i hope you know that this will go down on your permanent record.)
[Nick's voice is raspier than usual, the way voices get when their owners have been screaming, or crying, or possibly both.]
You know what, you motherfucker? I'm coming back to haunt your ass after I'm dead. See how you like it.

[Though now that she's thinking about it, she wonders what kind of effect a cave echo might have on amplifying her Morphus scream. She files that thought away to think on more when and if she doesn't die here under the ground.]

[He really likes the unusual effects that can be added with computer, and the different types of processing.]

[He's not nearly that bad--he's actually somewhat decent and can at least carry a tune--but considering the situation they're in anything to lighten the mood is the way to go.]

I'm pretty sure I'd get a one way ticket to hell for blasphemy if I agreed with that.
[But the silliness of this conversation is making him feel a bit better too.]

A lot of what happened on the mountain was worse. So far, anyway.
[But he's not sure he wants to talk about it, even if she for some reason wants to hear about it.]

[It's so strange though, because his life had been really normal before everyone suddenly changed in one night. He'd always heard that yes, people can adapt quickly, but had never really understood the extent of it before.]
But hey, what doesn't kill you just makes you a badass, right?
[The joke is weak, but he's trying to steer back out of the somber tone just a little. And it is true that after this, it'll make a lot of other things seem even more easy to deal with in comparison.]

[Actually, if Nick gets back to Chicago and ever breathes a word of any of this, she's pretty sure she'll be locked up in a nuthouse.]
fighting monsters and sickos who think theyre gods beats a barfight any day
[text]
I've never been in a barfight so I'll just have to take your word for it.
Actually I'm sure it's like a huge surprise but I'd never been in any sort of fight before everything that went down.
[Maybe an elementary school tussle here and there but nothing worse than a shoving match while everyone involved cried. Chris is totally hardcore.]

[Nick, on the other hand, has been fighting in some way since she was a small child - against her mother, against other children, against the world at large.]
