As it seems this place has stripped me of my students, I have decided I ought to find another one, perhaps two.
[Probably one. He's not holding his breath here.]
If you have any interest in learning glyphcrafting -- perhaps some minor magics as well, should you show potential -- please fill out an application. I have left them at the Clinic with Kate Galloway for accessibility.
[And also so he doesn't have to meet people in person to hand out these things.]
Thank you.

But he can air his grievances to the doctor another time. That is his job, as Carlisle understands it.]
Unless you manage to stab yourself with your pen while filling out the application, no, it cannot hurt. And should that happen, you perhaps have problems that magic would merely complicate.

[Although Lance is... Not exactly the best as far as calligraphy or drawing or anything of the sort, which might be a problem, but he's... Not going to mention that. If Carlisle does decide to teach him he'll just practice a lot, and he's a very fast learner.]
What sort of things can you do with glyphcrafting?
[voice]
[He's really going to have to come up with better answers for people from worlds where magic isn't commonplace.]
[voice]
What sort of energy do you mean? Is it like willpower, or some sort of totally separate magic thing?
no subject
Well... we refer to it as aural in nature -- pertaining to the soul and spiritual vitality of a person rather than physical fortitude. It varies in strength from individual to individual.

So, if I understand right, crafting the glyphs is a separate thing from actually activating them to do whatever they're supposed to do, and only the latter takes aural energy?
no subject
My uncles, for example -- one was a talented magician, and the other a powerful warrior who couldn't cast even minor magics, but it was the latter who often wrote glyphs for the former. He had no magical ability of his own, but his passion and appreciation for the art made him quite good at the 'crafting' part of glyphcrafting.

[Complementary talents and all.]

[Was.]
Though considered the easiest form of magic to learn in my world, it is extremely adaptable, and the fact that even the magicless can make use of it is the primary reason the art spread like wildfire. I've found it interesting that those not of my world have been able to harness it, as well.

That is interesting, and I wonder why that is. Maybe it depends on the caster's belief in the glyph more than the glyph itself?
[Because if the glyphs themselves have magic that words while in a completely different world and when drawn by people also not from Carlisle's world, then it couldn't depend on something environmental, right?]

And oh, Emily was Carlisle's previous student; that makes sense, suddenly.]
This whole thing is really fascinating, but I should probably stop asking you so many questions. Thank you, though, for answering them.

[And an encouraging response.]
It's just usually important to find a balance between asking questions and not annoying the person who might be teaching you.
[He's used to doing the latter; people tend to find him annoying.]
no subject
[Says the guy who knows he can come off as annoying with all the questions he can ask.]
I look forward to your application, then.
