Video 3 - Margaery's Apartment

[The video opens not in the Sewing Shop but in Margaery's apartment where she's sitting in the middle of her bed, a pillow clasped in her arms. she's looking down from the camera and she's in a bathrobe and nightgown, both wrinkled. her hair is disheveled and her eyes are heavily rimmed with red, as though she's spent a long time crying. which she has been. a whole day and night and a new day of crying.

she tries to look up at the camera, clear her throat and speak, but the words don't come. fresh tears well in her eyes and she looks down again, biting her lower lip.

a long moment passes with nothing but Margaery fighting back tears and silent. finally, she looks back up at the camera and speaks]

I--I thought people may want to know that Matt Murdock is no longer among us. His. His help was invaluable in the time before the Null invasion and [her voice breaks] he will be missed greatly.

[she brushes a tear off of her cheek, looking down again. she forces herself to look back up and continues]

I need to apologize to those I promised garments to. I. It will be at least another month before they're finished. I'm--I'm sorry.

[bitter laugh]

Yes, I suppose the so-called gods aren't finished tormenting me yet. I just--I could have handled it better were he at my side.

I get that, I do. I could handle things easier if Hannibal was here. I think separating us from the ones who keep us strong is part of the torment.

Then, I suppose that no matter where you go, the gods are cruel.

You lost someone you loved?

That's very true.

I did. Hannibal was my guardian. He was like a father to me, a good father, not like my real dad. I feel like I lost a lot with him, lost the feeling that I could ever be safe. I lost others too, my mom and my best friend but that was before I came here.

I'm very sorry for your loss.

[Margaery takes a deep breath and summons her courage]

Matt was--is more than the man I love. He's the only person I've ever felt comfortable being my whole self around. He knew of my darkness and loved me, anyway. I never imagined such a thing was possible.

Hannibal did the same for me. I used to worry that everyone would think I was a monster, or that I actually was a monster, but Hannibal accepted me. He understood that I did what I had to do, to survive. I get scared that no one else will be able to accept me.

[She stops speaking for a moment.]

Is that what you're worried about too? I'm starting to think most of us have darkness. Maybe everyone does.

[she nods slowly]

...yes. That's what I'm worried about.

To become the queen, I had to do things. Allow things. Some of them were terrible. Westerosi politics are brutal and unforgiving of mistakes. But I could tell Matt and he accepted it. Accepted me.

[Abigail's never had any experience with politics, let alone being a queen and yet it's all so familiar. For her, it had been the public and Jack Crawford, the head of the FBI who'd been unforgiving. And her own conscience.]

Matt must have been an amazing guy. I'm sorry I didn't get to know him.

I do know about terrible, brutal things.

[She pauses for a moment.]

If you ever want to talk in private about it, I won't judge.

[She's in no position to judge anyone else.]

[she gives a small, watery smile]

I'm sorry you didn't, too. And he is amazing. I--miss him so much already.

[she looks a little surprised] You do?

I wouldn't even know where to start.

[Abigail nods solemnly. As the daughter of the shrike and then the surrogate daughter of Hannibal Lecter, brutality's always been a part of her life.]

If it would help, I can tell you some of my story. But you'd have to promise not to think of me as a monster.

[she dashes more tears from her eyes and nods]

I promise that I wouldn't.

[Abigail checks to make sure it's still private.]

My father was very sick. He wanted to kill me. But he let me live, as long as he could find other girls that looked like me to kill.

[Margaery sniffles and wipes at her eyes.

and whatever she was expecting to hear, it wasn't that]

Oh. Oh my. I'm so sorry. That must have been terrible.

It was.

[Abigail looks down.]

The worst part was that he made me his lure. He forced me to talk to girls, find out where they lived and when they'd be alone, so he could do what he did.

He forced you to--what kind of man would do such a thing? To his own daughter?

[She looks up again slowly]

A monster. He made sure I knew he'd kill me if I ever said no to him.

[Margaery looks at her, shock and sadness written plain on her face]

Did you?

[Abigail shakes her head and wipes at tear at the thought that she might have been able to stop her father and save those girls and her own mother.]

No. I never stood up to him. I only got away from him when Hannibal and Will saved me.

You were his daughter. He should have taken care of you, not forced you to find victims for him.

I think about that a lot, the life I should have had. A normal childhood, then college and a career. Friends. All that stuff. I know I shouldn't dwell on it, but it's hard not to.

You can still have friends. I'll be your friend.

You will? Thank you.

I'll be your friend too.

[fresh tears well up]

Thank you, Abigail. No matter what your father tried to do to you, you're very kind.

That means a lot to me, really. Back home, I don't think anyone would have called me kind.
