THIS PLACE IS THE WORST AND I HATE IT.

THAT ASIDE, I'M LOOKING TO COMPARE NOTES. DOES ANYONE ELSE HERE HAVE EXPERIENCE WITH OTHER DIMENSIONS/REALITIES/ET CETERA SCI-FI BULLSHIT? BESIDES COMING HERE, I MEAN, THAT ONE'S OBVIOUS. I'M SEMI-FAMILIAR WITH THINGS THAT GIVE SPACE AND TIME THE FINGER JUST BY EXISTING, UNFORTUNATELY, ALTHOUGH ACTUALLY GETTING DUMPED IN WHAT I ASSUME IS ANOTHER UNIVERSE IS... NEW.

I believe that, by virtue of us merely bring in this place, we all have some degree of experience with other realities and dimensions. Some of us simply have more than others.

I'm mostly interested in hearing from the more experienced demographic. Where I come from, we didn't even know that alternate dimensions/realities existed until very recently. It's sort of a blind spot for me.

Ideally we'd be able to put our experiences together and figure something out about how the Door works. I'm not exactly holding my breath, but it's something to do, at least.

What about you? Had any extra-dimensional experiences in your lifetime?

[For a second, it seems like that might be all he has to say in regard to that question. The last person he spoke with in-depth about this topic went well, but she's gone now, and apparently, she'd gone mad before her departure. Carlisle blames himself, as usual. Perhaps other factors were in play, or perhaps the knowledge and notes they shared were too much for her.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained, though. And he's likely to end up dead from his affliction before his notes can come of any use -- to Carlisle himself, at least. Maybe someone else can glean something from them that will help them see worlds away from Hadriel, he reasons, ones that might hold a solution for his predicament.]

There are a few of us who were taken from their own worlds and times before coming here. People met in one world might not know of you in another. There could be multiple versions of you spread across many lifetimes and existences. It is not a comforting thought.

I actually saw another version of myself once, actually. Just a glimpse, nothing much, but considering how he and everyone I know from my own universe was dying horribly, it was enough.

So... there's that, at least? You could be one of the versions of yourself that's dying horribly right now.

In a cosmic "everyone is dying" sense, or a legitimately terminal sense?

[Welp, so much for that being a joke. Whether he's just cranky or trying to come to better terms with his impending demise, he's not about to say.]

Though I suppose for the me that is here, there is one somewhere else who might not be dying. Then the question is whether or not he's any happier with his predicament, whatever it may be.

What Carlisle says about the universe accords with my experience, though I've only lived in two universes besides my own. I've seen just enough to notice that there can be not only multiple editions of a world, but multiple editions of a person. In the world I lived in before I came here, I read a few books and had a few conversations with people who knew of this multiverse phenomenon. These two sources provide an extra explanation for some of what I've experienced or surmised.

I'm a craftsman and an artificer myself. Most of my experience is in a world you would might think of as ancient or medieval, but it was there that I learned most of my skills with materials and developed my concepts. It's just that the concepts are a little different in "modern" worlds, and the projects are geared towards massive production and use of energy. What sort of work have you done? -- you speak of things that defy time and space, just by existing?

Sounds like you do interesting work. Personally, I work with your standard scientific concepts, spaceships and cryonics and the like - the reality-bending came in when I met an... does your world have the concept of aliens? Things not from whatever your planet of origin is.

My work certainly interests me. But you work with spaceships? And what is cryonics?

No, we didn't have the concept of aliens. Everything that was in that world, no matter how strange, either belonged in it or had come there so long ago that it had made itself at home and was considered a native. You have aliens? Did you ever meet one?

I have no idea what that ever says.

A lot. One was more like a science fiction place with advanced technology beyond what I'm used to. And the other was the opposite, more like fantasy with magic.

There are definitely multiple dimensions kidnapping people at random. I'm proof of that.

Each one had different things that were good and bad about it, but this place has been the hardest to survive in.
