Video 4 - George's room
[the video opens on George, sitting on the edge of her bed with her legs crossed. she looks curious, but also a little sheepish as what she's about to ask is . . . personal.
no, she's not asking for flirting advice again.
that was one time.
stop looking at her like that.
no, this time what she's asking is even weirder]
So, uh, I was kind of wondering. How many people here died before they came here? And how many are now immortal?
I was just. Wanting to know?

Don't sweat it, it's been quite a long time. But hmm... My soul was bound to this mortal vessel, so I guess that means I could die again, 「Cool, huh? Not really, no.」 unless the Door lets me go home.
「That probably needs a much thorough explanation but he leaves it like that for how, unless she asks.」
So, are you immortal?
video.
So, uh, why was your soul bound to a mortal vessel? That sounds kinda harsh.
[and because George has no idea of boundaries, of course she asks]
Yeah. I'm a Grim Reaper.
video.
「Hmm... okay he... agrees, but he merely shrugs it off with a smirk. That's the kind of guy he is as she might see. He will not make things about himself.」
It was necessary then, but the Door chose a really unfortunate moment to bring me here, so, I guess you could say I'm stuck.
「Right, that doesn't quite explain it but, oh wait, that makes his eyes wide for a second.」
Like Ravine?
「WOW, SHE CAN HAVE ANOTHER FRIEND NOW! This is great.」
video. (cw: misogynistic slur)
Good. That's good. Thanks.
[that's good that someone's that kind of person since George tends to make herself the center of the universe. she's getting better! honest!]
Oh, jeez. That sucks. I'm sorry. The Door is a bitch like that sometimes.
[George nodnods]
Yeah, like her! I've talked to her a few times. She seems cool. You guys are friends?
video.
Yeah, she is. A very special one.
「They shared a bit more than just the fact they are dead, coming from a similar timeline does create some sort of bond and understanding.」
And just like her, you're unemployed, right?
「There aren't many souls to reap here, are they? 」
video.
I haven't seen much of her lately. Maybe she'll pop up to say hi?
[it certainly would. George feels a step behind most people from Earth since she's from 2003 and most of them are from later]
Totally unemployed. And loving it.
[nope, she'll give that much to Hope. the guy knows his way around resurrections]
video.
He looks around, as if Ravine were to suddenly appear and scare the shit out of him. She has done it before!」
I bet she's listening. And, what you don't like your job?
「If she didn't, he would get it, surely it was a bit to what Ravine told him anyway.」
video.
Maybe? It's cool if she is, though, I meant this for everyone.
I fucking hate it. It's all the responsibility and hassle of finding the right person and never getting to see my family again. You know. That kind of thing.
video.
... You haven't been always been doing this?
video. (cw: suicide mention)
[George's was a middle aged African-American man. he seemed nice enough. a little creepy about asking for her personal information to confirm that she was the one meant to die, but nice]
Nope. I died when I was eighteen. That was about a year ago.
video.
How did that... I mean... How's that you got to be who you are now?
video.
Well. It turns out that Reapers where I'm from have a quota. A specific number of souls they have to take. No one knows what the number is, of course. And I was the lucky girl who filled the quota, so I got his job.
video.
video.
[it's all very weird. and unfair. mostly unfair]
video.
「Definitively unfair.」
Why did you want to know anyway?
video.
[and she complained about. a lot. a lot a lot.
she shrugs and tries to look casual]
I was just curious. . . wanted to know how many people were like me.
And I should probably introduce myself or something. I'm George. Hi.
video.
Hey, George, my name is Atem.
「And a pause.」
Can I ask you something?
video.
Good to meet you, Atem.
[after the pause]
Sure? I mean, what is it?
video.
Does that meant you never got to go to the Afterlife?
video.
video.
That sucks...
「And, that's that.」
video.
Yeah, kind of.
Don't get me wrong, here's been. . . good in a lot of ways, but I'm kind of in limbo.
video.
「That... should count for something.」
video.
Maybe Lup's idea for a club could work?
