Normally, I would think what I'm about to ask is an odd question, but given the location and the circumstances, maybe not so much.

( this is gonna make for a good first poke at the network, innit, sammy? )

How many of you actually know about monsters? Spirits, things that go bump in the night, that sort of thing? Because where I'm from, they're pretty common, and I've noticed from meeting others here that it isn't that way for everyone.

( which is how it should be, if you ask him. nobody should know that the thing in their closet is real. )

Next question. Would anyone be interested in learning about things like that, and how to protect yourself against them?

Most people don't ever see ghosts, if that's what you mean, much less make friends with them. We were just a special case, I guess.

( well, that sounds a lot like his and his brother's life. generally speaking, people don't know about ghosts and the things that could hurt them in the shadows - but he and dean? they've seen too much of it. )

Sounds kind of like me and my brother. People don't generally know about those things where I'm from, either. Or they think it's all a joke.

It can get kind of hard to ignore sometimes, but people seem to be really good at making excuses for strange things happening. If it doesn't actually affect their lives, they don't have to believe in it.

So you have ghosts and monsters and things at home? Do you have magic, psychics?

You should hear some of the stories I've heard where people try to logically explain away the weird stuff that happens to them. It can get pretty out there.

Ghosts, monsters, witches, psychics. All of that.

I have no doubt that's true. I didn't believe in that kind of thing for a long time, myself.

I'm sure our worlds are pretty different, but it sounds like we have some things in common.

Sometimes the phrase "seeing is believing" is a lot more true than anyone ever thought it would be.

It does sound like it - but out of curiosity, do you know anything about demons?

Not really. After everything I've seen, I would have to believe there's a chance they exist, though. Or malevolent forces that call themselves demons, at least, if not the actual thing.

Why?

They're just about on par with ghosts and the like where I'm from, as far as how often I've encountered them. It was a shot in the dark to see if there was any other knowledge we might have in common.

I guess our worlds aren't that similar. Still, it'd be useful to share knowledge, probably. It seems like you know a lot more about protecting yourself from that sort of thing than I do.

You never know, there might be some other things we share that we haven't covered yet.

I'm just hoping that what I know is going to be enough to actually do some good.

We really can't do anything but try.

It's always going to be better than doing nothing.

( nothing wrong with that. being wary of people is a hell of a lot better than giving them the benefit of the doubt and trusting them outright - something he's been guilty of in the past, and still, somehow, hasn't quite learned his lesson all the way through. )
