[Lance looks a little over life at the moment, which most of his friends probably recognize as his standard look when not being purposefully professional. He's not bothering with the latter right now, both because he's a bit annoyed and because he thinks it would be pointless, so instead everyone gets normal, slightly bitchy Lance.]

Okay, I wish I could say that I can't believe I have to remind people of this, but vigilante justice is not exactly the best idea here. Not only is it morally wrong to just declare yourself to have the authority to decide who is and isn't deserving of 'justice', but it's logically wrong too; you're just going to cause problems, not solve them.

I'm not saying not to intervene when something's actively happening, but going after someone days or weeks later is just starting the whole process of retaliation all over again. So can everyone just take their egos down a notch and, if they're concerned about someone being an active threat or something, work on coming up with some sort of solution that isn't going to make things worse as soon as it's done?

[This is not the first time he's had to go into this discussion while here--or at home--and so that's why he's being extra short about it. He's also not just talking about the recent incident, it's simply what prompted him to say something this time.]

Obviously there's no way to address her at present, but once there is again -- and if no one objects -- I would be willing to speak to her. The inhabitants of this city have been much kinder than I'm used to, but most living beings don't consider me a person... so considering common motives there may be less temptation to murder me.

I appreciate the offer, but there are a few people who've interacted with her before who seem willing to try talking to her once she's able. You're a newer arrival, right?

I am. Which also means virtually no one here is invested in my well being. I would rather remain intact, of course, but would also willingly take the risk.

I don't think being new and not knowing anyone yet is exactly a reason to go into doing something dangerous.

My reason is to attempt to help protect this city. In whatever small way I can. The fact that it would cause less strife if I were harmed than say, you, is secondary.

Valuing someone's life more than another person's isn't really something I can agree with.

I do not give any one life more value than another, objectively. I was merely considering the best possible outcomes for the inhabitants of these islands, both physically and emotionally. What would cause the least harm.

Even going by that logic, the risk doesn't seem worth it.

Hmm. If you believe she'd be less likely to listen to a stranger, regardless one who's handled such individuals before, I'll defer to your knowledge on the matter. The offer remains, but my best wishes to whoever takes on the task.

[Probably literal fire, in Caedra's case. Still, he knows that feeling -- wanting to help, to talk things out. Family, indeed. He decides to answer that initial question after all:]

Early on in her time here, she killed a girl and summoned up some demons. The Guard took them out, and I was the one who ended up talking her down. Can't say we've had a good conversation since.

Honestly, brother, I'm not sure how yet.

He's too fragile to fight, doesn't know medicine or magic, there's no technology around to work with, and if his peacemaking experience isn't welcome he's officially out of ideas. Perhaps he should contact that young android he met early on, if he needs assistance with his project to assist inorganic folks? He could work on upgrading himself, but the lab had seemed quite busy when he last dropped by and that doesn't serve the greater good.

All in all it reminds him of his time before Acadia, before he had a purpose. He found it in helping synthkind and the Island. But how can he help Hadriel? ]

[Maybe Caedra just needs some time to cool off -- literally -- or maybe she'll never change, but Nick prefers to keep his guard up with people like her, the type who just likes watching people suffer. He knows the sort from his own experience as well as from memories belonging to the real Nick Valentine, and it never ends well.]
