Hey everyone, this is Peter. I'm, uh... Just lemmie-- Okay, I'm gonna preface this with "I'm fine", which... probably still sounds concerning to anyone who knows me. Uh, with good reason, but I promise that I really am fine.

So... okay, you know those freaky tentacle snails that attacked those guys a little while ago? Yeah, they're still around. I ran into a few of them outside the city, and by 'ran into' I mean 'was totally ambushed by'. Like, I was just minding my own business and they jumped out all "Blahhhhgh!" and I was like "oh snap!!", so yeah, we fought a little and I got bit and, y'know, it hurt. And I know the one guy was all "hey call for back up if you see any" and I totally would have if I'd had a chance, but I didn't? I mean, not because I didn't want to, it's just like, in the moment I was a little distracted by trying to get away from the things, and I didn't have my web shooters on me because they're possessed by demons right now? So I wasn't gonna even try to catch one of those guys without my gear, so I left. My toothbrush tried to stab me this morning, I'm not dealin' with this on top of that today. I'm done, I'm tapping out!

Anyway, if anyone else ends up fighting these guys, go for the eyes if you can. They're kind of hard to hit because of all the tentacles, but if you can take their eyes out it slows them down. They're still dangerous, though, like, they will absolutely still try to fight you, so just like, don't stick around if you can help it. In fact, just don't go outside the city by yourself. Don't go anywhere by yourself. Y'know, buddy system up if you can. I don't know how many of these dudes are still out there, but I have a feeling that they're not going away any time soon.

Oh right, I did manage to break a chunk off one of their shells. I don't know how helpful that's gonna be? But I've got it at the lab if anyone wants to see it, assuming you can pry it away from Newt. I also got a photo! It's... not a very good one, but uh, I'll put this somewhere, I guess.

( He may not have succeeded in defeating these things with Keith, though they're both skilled fighters, but when it comes to himself and Red Wine, their teamwork is so flawless that Steak cannot conceive of anything they can't defeat together. )

Okay, so two dudes versus unverifiable numbers of Squidbillies. We don't know if they've got reinforcements or whatever. Look man, I get it. You wanna go stop the bad guys and protect people, right? We all do, but this isn't gonna work if we're not all on the same page.

( They're a bit more than two dudes, but who wants to rehash that argument again? )

Then come with us. ( That's an obvious solution. Steak doesn't doubt the combat usefulness of this kid, not yet anyway. He's seen younger looking Food Souls, seen newbies to his Attendant's forces with skill that surpasses some of the longest time members.

Why think this child is any different? )

Okay, two things? One, still injured over here. Two, like seriously, you need to chill out a minute and like actually think before you run out and do anything. Do you even have a plan besides maybe find them and fight whatever you find?

Okay, how about this. You tell me what leads we have right now. Just lay 'em all out for me.

( Red Wine would agree with you, we're sure. But Steak ignores the comment because a. his superpower is clearly his fighting skills and b. that proposal actually has him thinking, trying to put together everything they know about these unfriendly shells. )

We know they appeared to be inspecting locations in the city during the stampede. They see the people dragged here as a threat or enemy. ( Considering his earlier demeanour, the thoughtfulness of this response might seem strange. Still, he was the Food Soul of a knight, part of his Attendant's forces in keeping the peace and dealing with lawbreakers. And after that, he and Red Wine, and others they picked up along the way, travelled, doing much the same thing. Protecting people, helping them.

Dissecting the behaviours of these beings isn't quite the same as dealing with a rampaging Fallen Angel, but it does remind him of dealing with lawbreakers in the old Kingdom. )

They travel in groups and combine floating with use of their appendages. It seems unlikely that they teleport. They were last seen, by you, near the city. I doubt they travelled through it. ( Or surely someone would have mentioned that. )

[Oh good, this dude had been paying attention. Perhaps he can be reasoned with after all?

Nice! We also know that they are extremely strong, fast, and durable, and that we have no idea where they're hiding out or how many there are. Am I right?

( ... It's debatable. Knocking him out would be quicker, really. )
