Tomorrow afternoon, we're hosting a class on the clinic on how to stabilize an injured person and then safely move the body, in an environment where the dead come back to life and where there's no serious expectation of sophisticated medical care.

It's going to be utilitarian and potentially grimly upsetting, but I suggest anyone with any kind of a stomach for it come to the clinic for noon. If you're conservative about touch, please bring a partner who you trust to manhandle you in body-lifting exercises. Of course you're welcome to opt out of that portion of the day, if need be.

Please bring donations of any medical supplies, if you can.

If you're new to Hadriel in the last couple of months, I'm Doctor Banner, I'm one of the clinic volunteers. I'm not technically a medical doctor, but since we lost Doctor Pierce, beggars can't be choosers. We've already covered wound care, risk of infection, and stitches and suturing. I'm happy to link you to that material, go over any of it in person, or continue stitching lessons for anyone who needs a refresher. What kind of doctor are you, then?

I'm a physicist, actually.

That seems pretty far on the other side of science from medicine. What qualifies you to run a clinic?

[zen_en_vert]

I studied the effect of gamma rays on humans, and after I left biomedical research, worked providing basic first aid and medical services in unregulated and underserviced areas overseas.

So you have experience.

[That's good. He sounds like he knows what he's doing.]

How long have you been running the clinic here?

Since we first arrived. I was in the initial group in the colisseum. It's impossible to say when precisely that was, because the day and night cycle took time to initially stabilize, as did the timekeeping, but it seems like it might have been roughly one month before the second group.

Arrivals come on the thirty, thirty one day cycle of human months, and there have been seven groups since mine.

I wish I could say you'd get used to it, but the truth is many of us never do.

I don't think I'd want to get used to this. That would imply a certain measure of acceptance.

You learn to function at a high level despite it, then.

That's true of any challenging situation. You adapt and survive, or - well, you don't.
