hadriel | video: still not that kind of doctor

Tomorrow afternoon, we're hosting a class on the clinic on how to stabilize an injured person and then safely move the body, in an environment where the dead come back to life and where there's no serious expectation of sophisticated medical care.

It's going to be utilitarian and potentially grimly upsetting, but I suggest anyone with any kind of a stomach for it come to the clinic for noon. If you're conservative about touch, please bring a partner who you trust to manhandle you in body-lifting exercises. Of course you're welcome to opt out of that portion of the day, if need be.

Please bring donations of any medical supplies, if you can.

If you're new to Hadriel in the last couple of months, I'm Doctor Banner, I'm one of the clinic volunteers. I'm not technically a medical doctor, but since we lost Doctor Pierce, beggars can't be choosers. We've already covered wound care, risk of infection, and stitches and suturing. I'm happy to link you to that material, go over any of it in person, or continue stitching lessons for anyone who needs a refresher. I should invite you to tea in my home every once in a while. It's only fair.

I'd enjoy that. It's hard to decide to take a break unless I leave here.

I know a few people like that.

[ Her future husband, for one. ]

We do have a dog, though, in case that might be any problem for you.

No, I love them.

[Used to keep one, in fact, but that's a sad story and not for today.]

What kind?

Er -- mabari. A war hound from Ferelden, which is a country in our home world. He's big and sweet and drools all over the place, so... well, that's really all there is to him.

[ She hesitates, and then goes on, knowing Cullen would be sad at the lack of bragging she'd done about their dog-child. ]

... And he's both very intelligent and trained in combat.

Your dog is trained in combat?

I couldn't get mine not to jump up on the bed.

He isn't mine, exactly. He belongs to my-- [ Er. Future husband? Lover? Cecily chuckles, low, shaking her head. ] To another from my world. He commanded the Inquisition's armies, so it's fitting that he arrived with a mabari.

[ Cullen is also very much in love with the dog, so there's that. ]

But, yes, they're very bright.

[That's a funny place to hesitate.]

Do you have many people here from your room?

There are two others from Thedas. [ She clarifies smoothly. ] There were more, but they've since... disappeared.

[ Returned home, apparently, though it still saddens her to remember. ]

What about you?

We had, and lost, Steve and Bucky, Wanda and Tony. Steve and Bucky have come back since, from different times, without their memories.

I'm sorry. [ She'd actually met Bucky, but hadn't gotten a name, and therefore doesn't bring it up. ] The same happened with one of ours, but she's since left again. It... isn't easy.

[ It's less easy, still, to live with the fear that the same could happen to her or Cole or Cullen at any given moment. ]

Are you close with them?

No. They're from a time before they know me. They barely know my name, no matter how much I remember them.

[It's an awkward situation for everyone.]

You- [ She trails off, eyeing Bruce as if she's trying to make up her mind about something, and eventually the Inquisitor does continue: ] ... The same thing's just happened to me. One of my companions arrived and didn't- doesn't remember me at all. Though I know my own memories of our time together are true.

[ She has to believe that. There's no way she could have somehow imagined things with Cole, particularly not after Cullen himself confirmed that something was strange about the spirit-turned-human not remembering her. ]

Is there a reference point you can check? 'How long ago was-' you know, something like that?

[Anything along those lines.]

We have many of the same memories, but the biggest difference is that he remembers someone else in my place. Though I know who he is and have the same shared past, otherwise.

[ Cecily smiles wryly, adding: ] But, I won't wear you out with my sad stories.

I would normally be happy to listen, but I can hear downstairs someone is having a fight about condoms, so we might have to rain check.

That's fair enough. [ She has no earthly idea what condoms are, anyway. ] I'll speak with you later, then?
