hadriel | video: still not that kind of doctor

Tomorrow afternoon, we're hosting a class on the clinic on how to stabilize an injured person and then safely move the body, in an environment where the dead come back to life and where there's no serious expectation of sophisticated medical care.

It's going to be utilitarian and potentially grimly upsetting, but I suggest anyone with any kind of a stomach for it come to the clinic for noon. If you're conservative about touch, please bring a partner who you trust to manhandle you in body-lifting exercises. Of course you're welcome to opt out of that portion of the day, if need be.

Please bring donations of any medical supplies, if you can.

If you're new to Hadriel in the last couple of months, I'm Doctor Banner, I'm one of the clinic volunteers. I'm not technically a medical doctor, but since we lost Doctor Pierce, beggars can't be choosers. We've already covered wound care, risk of infection, and stitches and suturing. I'm happy to link you to that material, go over any of it in person, or continue stitching lessons for anyone who needs a refresher. Doctor Bruce Banner, actually.

Bruce. [ A thoughtful pause. ] Do you mind if I call you that, or do you prefer "Doctor Banner"?

Bruce is fine, actually. You can use that.

Bruce, then. Thank you. I do prefer the intimacy of a first name. I know that must sound odd, considering my father only named me once, but... I'm not sure what last name would even be appropriate, for my family.

Godson, probably. If you end up needing to put something on paperwork.

Perhaps. Maybe my vessel's name would be more appropriate.

What do you mean by vessel?

The man whose body I possess.

[ There you go. It's creepy how at ease he is with saying that. ]

Oh- like a holy vessel paradigm.

[He says, catching on- a little horrified, admittedly, yes.]

His name was Jimmy Novak. He had a wife, a daughter. He was killed, during the battle with Lucifer.

I'm really sorry to hear that. Is that when you picked him up?

No. He surrendered his body to me, so that I might do God's work. It was that work that got him killed.

An angel requires a vessel. Without it, I would be... Well, we wouldn't be speaking now. It makes it very difficult to communicate.

Does the vessel have to consent?

[He says, forehead creasing.]

Yes. And we can communicate with our chosen vessels, to ask for that consent. Without their permission, their acceptance, even an archangel couldn't force themselves upon a vessel.

Good.

[Remind him not to sign up.]

How are you in him now, if he's dead?

His soul departed for Heaven. [ A pause. ] And my Father pieced me back together, in this form. I... I maintain this vessel now. It's a shell otherwise.

I wonder what that would mean in terms of resurrection here.

I... [ An uncertain pause. ] It's not something I'm in a hurry to experiment with. I'd rather avoid dying for a-- [ He counts on his fingers. ] --fourth time, if that's all very well with you.

Do your level best, then, because it isn't a city that's going to make it easy.

I'm very resilient. And I intend to stay as far away from any trouble as I possibly can. I don't fight any more.

[ Literally just said he averted the apocalypse, but there you go. ]

Then I hope you're able to stick to those principles.

It was nice meeting with you, Castiel, but I've got a lesson to give, so I'll let you go for the time being.
