The concept of "common decency" is idealistic, impractical, and naive to an absurd level. Take the Kantian view of ethics, for example - it's founded on a belief that all human beings are, at their core, rational. Anyone with eyes and at least half a brain can see that clearly isn't true.
I said nothing about humans being animals. What I did say is that the notion that they're fundamentally rational is fallacious. Is English not your first language, or do you just enjoy constantly drawing willful misinterpretations?
But humans aren't incapable of being rational. So to deny that people can be irrational is just making excuses for bad behavior. No matter what you want to call it.

Again, I will repeat, though I find it incredibly tiresome to do so - what I said is that the foundational statement that humans are fundamentally rational is incorrect. I fail to see how you can interpret that as a blanket excuse for so-called bad behavior. Well, aside from the obvious reason.
