So I got a question.

But seriously, this is so far out of his comfort zone that we're in the Andromeda galaxy, so just... give him a second. He's not used to talking about this to the mass public. ]

How many of you've had something shitty from home show up here? [ .... Sigh. Okay. Too vague. Try again.

I mean monsters. Shit that does more than go bump in the night. Because if we all start bringing this kinda crap from where we come from, we're gonna have a problem and not nearly enough people are gonna know what to do with it. I mean, just counting what could come outta my own world-- [ grumble grumble. ]

So what I wanna know is if this's happened more than once. We already got enough here to keep track of, I just wanna know if anything that people know more about's followed you here.

I don't know if pretty is the direction I'd go, but yeah, I could make it readable, easy to follow.

I don't know much about the monsters that're actually living here yet- i'm working on finding out more about those guys, but I think we've already got a few things to start with. The fucking fireflies, for one. Wendigos for another.

Wendigos? [That's ... interesting.] Do you know if those are related to the incidents of cannibalism? Chris said something about cannibal monster spirits and the gods here giving people other people to eat not long ago.

I'm gonna go with a big fucking yes on this one- they've gotta be related.

Wendigo's-- [ Hm hm how to phrase... ] They used to be humans, but after getting a little too addicted to the mowing down on people, get turned into spirits. One's that're twice as into eating people. I mean, depending on who you ask the lore changes a bit back in my own world, but that's the main gist of the story.

The lore originates in tales from some of the Native American Indian tribes, right? I read a case study on wendigo psychosis for a report when I was younger, I remember that part.

Right, yeah. Couldn't tell you which tribe tells what story, but I know they're all a little different. And back home they usually only hang out in a few different places- Minnesota mostly and then Canada.

They're an awfully long way from home if they're here ... though I guess you could say the same for the rest of us, too.

Unless you count the combustible fireflies when I first arrived, no. I haven't really gone out of my way to seek any out, though.

Yeah, probably a good idea. Are monsters a thing where you're from, or...?

Not verifiably. We have stories, of course - vampires, werewolves, Bigfoot, the Loch Ness monster. But no actual evidence exists for any of it. The only thing I've encountered that could be classified as supernatural is shinigami, and I'd hesitate to call them monsters in the traditional sense of the word.

[So really, his interest is partly in finding something to stave off boredom, but mostly in the simple act of acquiring information.]

Yeah, it was um... The same at home, except apparently wendigos are real. No shinigami though, at least uh, as far as I know.

[And he only vaguely has an idea of what shinigami are, thanks to the internet, but he has the general idea.]

That's not surprising. If there are shinigami and they're the same as the one I met, you would have to meet a specific set of circumstances to ever know you were in their presence.

Do they leave you alone if you don't mess with them?

[Because he'd be all about never finding out if they're real or not if wouldn't hurt him not to know, no matter how much of him is also kind of curious about them.]

I guess you could put it that way.

[Really, it's more about the shinigami deciding to mess around with the human world by dropping a notebook and waiting for a human to pick it up and cause chaos with it.]

My understanding is that you won't ever see a shinigami unless it wants you to know it's there.

[Which is more or less how it happened with Sidoh. Mello had his notebook, which Sidoh repossessed and then dropped on Jack's head, then told him to get everyone else to touch the notebook in order to see him.]

They're not going to sneak up on you and like, use you not seeing them as a great opportunity to eat you or something, though?

They don't eat people. In fact, they only seem to typically concern themselves with taking human lives in order to prolong their own.
