[So, Ruby's been here awhile but hasn't bothered to make many comments--or any posts--on the network. But she's definitely been stalking them, and learning as much as she can about Hadriel and the people in it.

So that's why she feels confident in making this post, opening with a friendly smile and broadcasting from one of the abandoned shops.]

Hi, everyone. I've met some of you here, but for those I haven't talked to yet, I'm Ruby.

[She smooths a small segment of her hair between her fingers, looking as innocent and nonthreatening as possible.]

I'm helping out with the pickling and jamming and other food preservation efforts now that we have the new orchard, but that's not really what I wanted to talk about. Something totally different, actually.

[She pauses a moment, like she's gathering up her nerve to continue.]

I've seen that a whole lot of people here have magic, or supernatural powers, or some combination of them. I know that there's a lot of reasons why you might want to be private or secretive about them--I have been--but those of you who don't mind sharing, I thought it might be useful to what each other knows. Maybe we can even figure out ways to combine our skills.

[Mostly Ruby wants to know what other people are capable of and how she can use that to her benefit but close enough, right? RIGHT?]

Some of the magic in my world is teachable, too, so I'm willing to talk to anyone who might be interested in that. I can't guarantee anything, but the more we can all take care of ourselves the safer we'll all be.

Whatever kind of magic. It only makes sense it's different in different worlds, so it's kind of hard to describe a particular type.

Seems that way. [ Neutral agreement is one way to start it. Kate's pretty open about her powers though, mostly because they'd never work down here without people's co-operation anyway. So she inhales and adds; ] Enchantment. [ Hell, her last post on the network relied on this, so why keep it quiet? ]

I saw your post about the healing charges. They're really incredible; healing powers are pretty rare at home. When you say enchantment do you mean you're making an object magical in general, or that you're specifically making it able to do some specific purpose like the healing?

Sure, but it's hard to be specific because magic can do so much in my world. So of the more common things I use are creating protective charms, finding missing people, and moving objects with a thought.

[All true, just leaving out some of the other things like enchanting objects to kill people. You know, normal stuff.]

Ah, well, I don't have any powers to fly or shoot fireballs or the like, but I am immortal. That's got to count for something, right?

[She's restraining an eyeroll, and she's glad she put forth the effort because wow that next part is interesting.]

That definitely counts for something. Were you always immortal, or is that a new thing?

Well, my own sorcery does not function when I am not on my home plane, so I cannot offer a demonstration, only a description of the theory.

[Which was frustrating. Tazendra was comfortable with a sword, but being able to channel raw power to make things explode was also a useful skill.]

I know the teachable magic I use works here, so maybe you can at least use some of that. I'd definitely be interested in the theory of how yours works in your world, though.

Sure, though there's very little magic can't do in my world. I typically use it for minor things since not everyone is too fond of people with magic, but it can do much more impressive feats than the protective charms I use it for.

[Most of that's true; she doesn't use it all that much, and when she does some of it's for protection. Her demonic powers work a lot better for offensive stuff, and take a lot less time and effort.]

Hi Chara, nice to meet you. Magic from my world is complicated, but there are some things people with no magical ability can learn especially if you want to protect yourself rather than fight.

[Not really true, but whatever. At least about it being easier to protect yourself than fight.]

Pure magic, yes. Other powers are limited to the type of being that has them naturally, but there's still a lot humans can learn.

Magic is pretty varied in my world, so it's kind of hard to be too specific. I have the most experience with practical, informational magic though; how to find missing people, how to protect yourself, all of that.

I have power, but I doubt most would be able to learn without some natural aptitude. The price to pay for what I can do is too high.

Yes, some types of magic are teachable even to people who don't have it naturally. It's really varied--you can kind of direct magic to do anything if you have the right spell--but the easiest things to learn are protective charms and some practical spells like how to find someone who's missing.

[And the potentially dangerous, versatile hex bags, but she won't mention that right now. Summoning spells are also easy, but with so few beings from her world here they wouldn't be too useful.]
