Hello, fellow residents of Hadriel. I'm Sato.

I'd hoped I'd have something more important to say the first time I posted anything publicly, but it turns out I just have a question for all of you.

You see, where I'm from, there's no such thing as magic. But I know that many of you are from places where it really does exist in one form or another. So to those of you out there, I'd really like to hear from you about how it works, who can learn it, and anything else you wouldn't mind sharing.

After all, with dragons flying around, this seems like as good a time as any to talk about the fantastical.

It exists where I'm from... but what we call magic is more a manipulation of will and energy. It takes a lot of skill and training.

If they're willing to put in the time, can anyone learn it? Even a little thing like charging my own electronics would be very useful, I think. [Asked more as a matter of curiosity, since the second half is more what he's been hoping to get at...] On the other side of things, is there any way to cancel it out?

Anyone of my kind. I don't think humans can unless they're inclined already, but I've met some psychics. I could try and teach you just in case?

You can't cancel it, really, but you can fight it if it's directed at you.

If you're offering, I wouldn't say no. I'm not human myself, so it'll be interesting to see what happens!

Oh? That's an useful tidbit on its own. Just by force of will, or does that require training too?

I guess I'm offering. What are you, then?

Force of will does the trick, if you're strong enough. I've never had training to fight but won a magical attack once anyway.

I could ask the same of you. [He'd honestly figured that Pell was probably human of some sort, but here we are.] I guess none of us should assume while we're here in this place.

Should I just come by the clinic again some day?

No, we shouldn't. I've met too many who are something different. I'm Wraeththu -- it's an evolution of humanity, you could say.

It might be better to come by my house. I've already got the supplies there and we wouldn't be bothering anyone.

They call my kind 'demihuman'. [There's the faintest hint of a pause, as if confirming that Pell isn't familiar with the concept. Since he clearly isn't... Sato can cheerfully say whatever he wants.] We're really not so different from humans, but I'll keep my fingers crossed on the magical possibilities anyway.

Just let me know your address, and I'll show up sometime soon. I think we're all a little preoccupied with the dragons right now.

I don't think I'm so different from a human, either, except for the things I can do.
