He's reasonably sure that his ghost isn't magic of any kind, although what exactly it is... well, even Sato isn't quite clear on the matter. But it might be an acceptable substitute.

Normally, the thing is invisible. But under these circumstances, feeling all riled up and ready for some action as he is, Sato's 'black ghost' is very, very visible -- at first as a strange black humanoid shape leaping from building to building. But as it gets closer, it's clear the thing doesn't have a proper head at all, just a flattened down nub. And its heavy musculature seems to be wrapped in bandage-like strips, continuously dissolving and re-forming.

It's very, very weird looking, in short.
