[It looks like Adam has taken one of the mopeds to pieces. There are engine bits carefully arranged around him, his hands still have traces of grease on them, and there are tools nearby. He generally doesn't use the network much, but - this seemed relevant.]

I guess these are the vehicles we were promised. They seem all right - probably won't go more than 25, but it's not like there's a real need for speed here. They run pretty well, though they're electric, so they'll need charging. And they're not too complicated, so if something breaks it should be easy to fix - I'd be fine showing anyone who wants to learn.

[He pauses for a moment, shrugs.]

Or doing it for you, I guess. But there's some... weird stuff.

[Adam picks up the carburetor, unscrews part of the covering, and pulls it off. Rather than what would be expected to be inside - normal moped parts, necessary to running it - out pops a spring-loaded, fake-looking snake, like something you'd hide in a can for a shitty prank.

Expecting this, Adam does not seem surprised, only vaguely tired and maybe a tiny bit amused.]

All the ones I looked at have something like this. They run fine, though.

They work fine, and they seem safe. But yeah, I know what you mean.

[Who knows how safe something can be when it's totally weird and messed up?]

[ There's a heavy pause, and then a sigh. ]

Why would you wonder something like that out loud, Adam? Because now someone is going to do some digging and find out that the blenders have rubber ducks running them and our beds are filled with fairy wings.

[ She wants to live in a world where normal things are normal and not something straight out of a Dr. Seuss book. ]

Yeah, I'd never be able to get a good night's sleep if I knew I was sleeping on fairy wings. Sounds like fairy cruelty.

That only sounds like fairy cruelty? Adam, they'd have to pull their wings off, I think that's the very definition of cruel. [ She's honestly amused, though. Though, there could always be a breed of fairy (assuming fairies exist) that sheds it's wings? Don't think too hard on it, Sharon. ]

But good. I get being curious, but there are just some things we're not meant to know: like how chicken nuggets are made or what works the dishwasher here.

Probably the wingless fairies, running on little treadmills. Might as well make them useful, right?

[Oh god, he hopes that's nowhere even close to the truth. He'd feel so bad. Luckily, he thinks fairies are pretty unlikely.]

Maybe there's just plastic snakes inside everything. Somehow I wouldn't be surprised.

Adam, so help me if that comes true. [ A gentle, playful threat. But, no, for real, please don't let the gods pull the wings off of fairies and then use them for slave dishwasher work. that's horrifying. or a story fear should tell everyone. ]

I don't think I want to think too hard on that, Confusion gets enough of that shit here, I think. [ a pause, and then whisper: ] Fucking plastic snakes? Ridiculous.

If it comes true, I'm gonna regret everything.

[And campaign to free the fairies. It would only be fair.]

I mean, the important thing is that they work, and that the road are clear now. That should make things a little easier here.

I guess so. [ It's said in such a way that makes it clear she kind of disagrees but doesn't really want to argue it. To her, it's just another god to complicate their lives, fuck the cleared roads and mopeds. ]

[Adam is a practical sort, always more focused on survival than anything else. He avoids the gods as much as possible.]

You don't think so?

[ She licks her lips. ] It adds to the amount of work I have to do, how many of them I'll have to kill. [ A thoughtful pause. ] Though, I guess seeing that Sorrow knows what we need, I just need to kill the gods or the god he cares most about. [ She's just spitballing here, but there's something incredibly vengeful to those words—like it comes from a part of Sharon that people rarely get to see. ]

[He is only briefly surprised. She has a good point, actually. Rather than spread your efforts wide and make them less effective, target exactly what you need.]

Do we even know how to kill them? They were dead when we all arrived here, but I don't think they've ever told us how it happened.

That's not a question I can answer you, Adam. [ The way she says it, it's almost as if she knows how. She's lying, leading—not Adam, she likes Adam (but not enough to not use him what)—but whatever gods that may be listening in on. ]

They told us it was one being that killed them, that did all this destruction. They're hiding right now, licking their wounds and praying it doesn't come back before they're ready.

Frankly, I have to hope for the same. We have no way to defend ourselves if we don't even know what might attack.

[He sighs.]

But I really don't want to depend on them.

We already depend on them for everything. Really. We may as well be goldfish in a really spacious bowl. [ a pause ] They die, we die.

[ which makes the whole situation further infuriating. ] And death is probably better than this bullshit.

I don't think so. You can't come back from death - most of the time.

[Never mind that it happens all the time here, and it even happened at home. Twice.]

As long as we're alive, we might find a way out.

Or we'll just swim in circles in our fishbowl for eternity. [ Someone is a pessimist. ]

You've already proven it can be affected. I don't think it'll be forever.

[ A scoff. ]

A load of good it did. We'll be here until they don't need us anymore, which is never by the way, or their big, bad, nightmare friend arrives to set us free.

You don't think it did any good to show that it's possible for us to permanently alter things here?

[He sounds rather certain when he says:]

I think you're wrong about that.

No, I don't. I basically made a permanent Fear amusement park. Maybe that's why it didn't go anywhere. [ Maybe it had nothing to do with Kate's sash or her powers or anything. ]

He might like it, but you're the one who made it, and you made it strong enough that the gods can't wipe it away. That's a sign that we can do things to affect them - that they aren't as all-powerful as they try to seem.

Look... [ She sighs heavily. No, he's just trying to be nice and she appreciates the pep. She shouldn't get upset or tangled up over his niceties. ]

Thanks, Adam. Let's hope someone powerful enough sees that sign someday, then.

It'll happen. Or we'll find another way.

[Well... he'll take it. He believes in her, anyway.]

I guess we've just got to hold on until the next shitty thing happens.
