Video 5 - Sewing Shop

[the video opens on the Sewing Shop, Margaery sitting in front of the camera with her legs crossed neatly at the knee and wearing this. there are three finished items on dress forms in the background and a small stack of bolts of fabric]

Hello, everyone! I wanted to let you know that the Sewing Shop is open for business. Please stop by if you need your garments mended or if you need something new that you can't find in the shops. I know how hard it is to find things that fit properly there.

I'm also available to give sewing lessons should you wish to learn! It's a very useful skill to have, especially here where anything can happen.

Except perhaps my father. Betwixt my father and the Hobbits, they'd eat everyone out of house and home and we'd be stuck with the scraps.

[bythewaves]

Oh, a good hobbit feast goes on until everyone is full. [ He laughs ]

They can cook to match their appetites, you see. I think your father would be right at home.

[roseofthetyrells]

Really? Do they like to sing? Father is mad about singing. He has quite a good voice, too.

[bythewaves]

Drinking songs, mostly. [ Maglor says wryly ] The majority of my tavern tunes are from them!

[roseofthetyrells]

[she laughs] Father tends to sing the more traditional songs sung by bards, but if you get some wine into him, he'll sing drinking songs until the dawn.

[bythewaves]

I predict he would probably get along very well with the hobbits then. [ Maglor laughs in return ]

Then again, tis very easy to get along with them, I find. They don't much like us Big People, but they're hospitable to their bones. A good folk.

[roseofthetyrells]

Yes. Yes, I think you're right. [her smile turns melancholy] I miss him. I miss Loras. I miss my grandmother. I know that grandmother, at least, is still alive, but what kind of life will it be, having lost all of us so horribly?

[bythewaves]

[ He makes a low noise of sympathy ]

That will be hard for her, I think. But she sounds to be a strong woman, from how you've described her. I hope she will be alright.

[roseofthetyrells]

It will be an agony. She'd had such hopes for all of us. Even father, despite everything.

I can't help hoping that she comes here. I know there would be danger, but she is a strong woman. She'd be able to withstand what this place would try to inflict upon her.

[bythewaves]

Life here is easier in some ways, harder in others. [ Maglor nods ] I am sure she could adapt!

[roseofthetyrells]

I am sure as well. She's terribly clever. Odds are that the gods would be unable to influence her, so strong is her will.

[bythewaves]

Ah, a veritable old battleaxe, as the drawves might have said! She sounds very formidable.

[roseofthetyrells]

[she laughs] Oh, she is formidable indeed. Capable of laying a man open with nothing but the power of her words and her wits. I'd make sure she'd be kind to you, though.

[bythewaves]

Or she might be horrified at me, a wandering bard? [ He grins ] Am I not terribly disreputable to be spending time with her darling granddaughter?

[roseofthetyrells]

Oh, no. For one thing, she appreciates intelligence. For another, you're good to me. That would come as a pleasant surprise when compared to my previous husbands and the other nobility of Westeros.

[bythewaves]

I have no money, or title, are you sure? [ He laughs ]

But I think I would like her too.

[roseofthetyrells]

Neither does Matt and I'm sure she would have approved of him. Grandmother approved of men who were . . . good to me.

I'm sure you would.

[bythewaves]

She sounds a very sensible woman. [ Maglor smiles ]

She reminds me of the hobbit matron who tried to feed me, when I worked at her husband's inn!

[roseofthetyrells]

She is. Unfortunately for her, she never had the chance to meet a man who would be good to me. Renly tried, but he was in love with my brother. Joffrey was a sadistic monster and she knew that it was only a matter of time before that sadism would be directed toward me. And Tommen was a sweet boy, but he was like a weathervane.

You worked at an inn? I must hear more.

[bythewaves]

Ah Margaery! I'm so glad you and Matt found each other.

[ He laughs ]

Briefly, yes! I wandered into the Shire once - I always used to play for bed and board, when I got tired of living rough. But when Mistress Celendine saw me, she basically threw up her hands in horror at my state and demanded I stay so she could feed me. One week turned into two... I stayed almost a full year, in the end.

[roseofthetyrells]

So am I. Even though I still miss him terribly. I don't think I'll ever stop.

[she laughs brightly] Oh! I can only imagine the state you must have been in to earn that reaction. Terribly thin and bedraggled and in need of a good night's sleep in a real bed and a supper that's not cooked over a cookfire!

[bythewaves]

I don't think you'd want to, eh?

[ He smiles at her and shrugs wryly ] It had been a long hard winter, and I was very tired of scavenging! She was very good to me.

[roseofthetyrells]

No, I wouldn't. No matter how much I miss him. It's that pain that drives me to find a way to his world.

I can only imagine. Our time after the Null invaded and Hope couldn't provide food was the only time I've really done without and I must say that I didn't care for it! I'm glad there was a kind soul there to take you in when you needed it.

[bythewaves]

As was I - I normally don't venture into populated areas except to trade for things I cannot get myself. But the Long Winter was... it was a hard year. I did not mind staying with them, and they were, and are, a people greatly concerned with the Proper Way to Do Things. [ the capitals are audible ] And they have a very great deal to say about Hospitality!

[roseofthetyrells]

I can't even imagine. I've never been through a winter, but they say that even in the Reach, it gets cold and grey and ice falls from the skies. [she smiles] I think I would like the Hobbits, although I'm not sure what they would make of me.
