004 [Video] | Forward dated to like the 19th
[Connor is normally all 'important business' when he talks to the network, and to be fair that's going to be a part of this broadcast. However, there's something much more important to address first.
So the broadcast starts off by showing a clear bin--some sort of small tupperware or plastic container with damaged edges and no lid--filled with water, in which sits a glass shark. But it only sits for a few seconds, then gives a little wiggle like it's doing its best to swim, bumping its glass nose gently into the side of the container. It continues this still, then little swim, then still again pattern for a few repetitions until Connor picks up the phone to address the network properly.
As usual he has a hat covering his LED, but he's back to the beanie he'd bedazzled a few months ago; it has a big dipper on it, and it's awesome. Connor looks a little brighter than usual, even if it might be hard to tell, because he loves this event so far omg.]
Has anyone else noticed strange behavior from objects around them?
[And has it been this cute for anyone else, because this is cute and he wants the shark to stay this way forever please. Not really having many possessions or even furniture is working out for him this event.
But more seriously--]
It's been a few months since I last addressed the network about acquiring medical supplies for those who aren't human or near-human, and it seems we've had several new arrivals in that time who may need them. However, because these needs might be very individualized, those with specific requirements should make them known in advance so we can try to get any necessary supplies in stock.
If you're concerned about privacy you could respond anonymously, or leave a note or message at the Lab. Otherwise, just contact me with details of what you might need.
[That all said, broadcast over; Connor has to go come up with a name for his temporarily animate shark.]

No. There's something much more pressing here. ]
did you show up here in that outfit?
[ If she knew him, she'd give him shtit for the beanie, but a) she is only just meeting him and b) it's kind of cool because it's clearly very accurate? ]
text
as if he actually has one yetbut they're also just for show anyway, and not really that important.But he knows fashion means quite a bit to humans and some other species as well, so he'll just control the exasperation for now.]
Parts of it. Some items were found here.
[The jacket and jeans are from home, but he's found a different shirt and of course the bedazzled beanie; the plain one is still around somewhere just in need of washing.]
text
it's just
like, i don't know you, but i can tell the shops here have so not been kind to you
the beanie's pretty nice though
[ Emily's priorities are fine water u talking about. ]
text
Thank you.
I didn't think it was worth the time and supplies necessary to ask for something custom made, especially when I can find things that fit well enough despite being apparently unfashionable.
[Since she's not the first to say as much.]
no subject
i also mod stuff i find in the shops
but you do you, not like it matters here
cool shark btw
no subject
Thanks. I found it in a shop several months ago.
[And it was basically the first thing he's ever owned, so that's definitely some sentimental value. Even if it weren't, though, it's just really really cute.
But he can't help but be curious about the rest of what she said--]
You modify what you find? In what way?
no subject
if i find a shirt i like but it has sleeves for three arms, i cut the extra sleeve and patch it so it fits me. if something's too big, i take it in. if i find two pieces i like that are too small and dont clash too badly, i put then together
things like that. it's all by hand, so it takes fucking forever, but it passes the time, and i like doing it
you don't know a lot about clothes, do you. like, at all
[ Tone doesn't come across in text, but she's not being disfainful there. She's curious. Where is he from? How lobg has he been here? How done is he with Hadriel already? ]
no subject
So it's neat to hear about someone who does it themselves, and it's clear she knows what she's doing, so that's all interesting to him.]
Is that difficult here, with such limited choices?
[He imagines it is, which makes it more impressive. But as for her last comment--]
Clothing and fashion are not my areas of expertise.
[Aside from knowing how to look elegant and professional in order to use that to his advantage in his work, he has practically no skill in this area. Even what he does know is dependent on his usual CyberLife uniform, which is shoved in the back of a closet in his apartment right now.]
no subject
oh god yeah. we used to get fabric from delight, but now tranquility's our god for that. any time i see, like, a needle or thread in the shops, i grab it. you take what you can get
[ Damn right she's impressive. ]
im finding it's not a lot of people's area tbh. there aren't like classes on it or anything where i'm from. you have to learn on your own, from magazines and tv and interviews. people talk shit about caring about clothes that much but like, the amount of time and drive it takes to learn it all is so not small
so im not surprised, and i can like, advise you if you want
19th it is! - Video
Yeah. I have.
Glad to know it's not just me.
[He holds up his left hand where a very angry blue coffee cup is attached to his fingers. It's trying it's hardest to bite those fingers right off, but since it's a mug and doesn't have teeth it's not doing much. Pratt pets it with his thumb.]
I'm not sure what it's so mad about.
Video
Is it attempting to crush your fingers?
[What is it so mad about? Then again he supposes if a mug suddenly became sentient it probably would have a lot of reasons not to like people; maybe that's why his shark has been well behaved? It's only ever sat on Connor's countertop and gotten admiring looks.
Of course in actuality, the shark just doesn't have a mouth to open and therefore all it can really do is swim/wiggle around, but whatever.]I presume this is the gods' doing, but I wonder what the point is.
no subject
[He washed it thinking maybe it was angry about being dirty. It only marginally helped.]
Yeah. It's fine, maybe it's teething. Like a puppy.
[Its his favorite mug and it gets special treatment.]
My guess is it's to make people think they're going crazy? Admittedly living silverware is a new hallucination, even for me.
no subject
[Logically, Connor knows that it's probably ridiculous that they're being empathetic toward animate household items, but then again isn't that what humans in his world think androids are? Who's to say Pratt's mug or Connor's shark or anything else in the city doesn't truly have thoughts and feelings while this is going on?]
It does seem like a weird choice, although I guess it could make people question themselves for a time. It might be frightening or simply confusing, and either could benefit a god here.
[So it does make sense, even though now he's wonder which god this event is actually meant for.]
no subject
[Even if it is currently trying to tear his fingers off.]
Maybe they were supposed to do something else and it got messed up? Otherwise this is more annoying than anything else.
Though the shark is kinda nice. It's like you have a little fish tank.
[private]
[THROW ALL THE SHADE. But for the next part he toggles the privacy settings with a brief touch to the screen, before adding--]
It is. I like it; aside from humans, a fish was the first living creature I had contact with.
[And so some part of him is partial to them.]
no subject
Fish are relaxing to watch, but they don't give too much back. Hard to interact with them. But I always liked the fish tank they had at the bait shop. There was this bubbling thing and the fish would ride the bubbles up to the surface, swim back down and do it again.
Is anything else in your place alive now? Or just the little shark?
no subject
At the question he comes back to the conversation, shaking his head.]
I have very little in the apartment, and as far as I'm aware it's just the shark. I haven't spent much time here, however.
[So it's possible he just hasn't seen something; for instance if the beds are alive he'd have no idea, since he hasn't been in either bedroom in some time.]
Is it just your mug for you?
no subject
[ And therefore his favorite.]
My bed is grumbling, but not doing much else so it's easy to ignore. I had to lock my shovel in a closet because it starting singing.
no subject
[Since when can shovels sing, even animate? He's fascinated by this idea, and also has to ask--]
What was it singing?
no subject
Old songs from the fifties. Or trying to anyway, it's not making any words. More like... humming aggressively.
[And after Pratt nearly had a heart attack that it was going to start singing "Only you" he wrapped it in towels and put it somewhere he can't hear it.]
(Video)
(Video)
[And that said, he has to ask--]
Are there no sharks in your world?
[It's a genuine question, not judgmental.]
(Video)
(She smiles and shakes her head.)
There must be sharks off the coasts of Westeros, but I have not sailed long enough to see them.
(Video)
[As for that last part, he gets it, at least for the most part.]
I've never seen a real shark either. Being on the islands here was the first time I had seen the ocean.
(Video)
(She is a little disappointed, but such is reality.)
Did you like it?
(Video)
[But that's not the most important thing, right? Though since he's never seen a real shark anyway, who knows, she might be right overall.]
I did. Far better than here.
[This place isn't as bad as he'd been afraid of, but the cold still makes him nervous.]
(Video)
(She had been led to believe they were bloodthirsty creatures with sharp teeth.)
No matter the environment, Hadriel makes me uneasy. I try not to think about it.
audio;
[ It seems a prudent question to ask. ]
audio;
[And by 'very little' he means practically nothing.]
Re: audio;
Since you asked.
audio;
Noted. Is there anything needed immediately, or are these more for preventative maintenance and future repair?
Re: audio;
video;
video;
[His shark is only not causing problems itself because it's useless on land and has no mouth, but still.]
Re: video;
[ There's a definite reddish band around her neck where said choker got a little too abrasive. ]
But nothing I can't handle.
[Audio]
[So. Yes. Yes he has noticed.]
[Audio]
[He asks it mildly and with a hint of curiosity, but he definitely knows that's not normal.]
no subject
Yet another part of this world that makes me realize just how dull mine is when it comes to the number of things that could kill you.
video;
[ But on to the more important point, as he's simply being very careful around the newly animate objects now -- ]
I do have a growing list of components I need to remain functional, that are proving impossible to find here. And a table at the lab to help fabricate such things... perhaps I could be of help to others somehow, in exchange for however you're acquiring them?
video;
[Because that's presumably what this is, if it's so widespread. But the rest of what DiMA says is more interesting, and he focuses on that right away.]
Do you need anything immediately, or is it more of a future concern? Any help you want to provide would be welcome; it's just Alphys and I that have been trying to coordinate this, although we haven't gotten to the point of procuring any real parts yet.
Re: video;
[ Fear is a strong word, DiMA was more startled than actually afraid, and he isn't the type to Rage... but he can see how certain types would feel both things. ]
My immediate concern is wiring. Mine has been damaged further by the elements and I lack the resources to replace it. I've been advised to seek clothing now that I'm outside so often, but will probably require assistance with that as well -- not from you, of course, unless you wish to.
What sort of help might you need?
video; --> private
[But he can see how it might've been meant for the other two. And okay, give him a moment to touch the screen and toggle the settings through the interface connection turning the feed to private.]
I would help if necessary, but I'm not the best to consult on clothing choices. I've been informed several times that it isn't a strong suit of mine.
[Which he's okay with, but yeah.]
Wiring should be relatively simple as far as requests go, if we have to resort to speaking with the gods, but wiring does differ and so it would be important to be sure of exactly what kind you need.
[And he made this private because of DiMA's question, still not sure he wants everyone to know he's an android let alone what his situation is, but it's alright to tell DiMA.]
I need thirium and biocomponents, primarily; thirium is more for maintenance as I lose some whenever damaged, but biocomponents would be necessary preemptively if any of mine are seriously damaged.
[Because without an already sourced replacement, serious damage to a vital biocomponent would be fatal very quickly.]
Re: video; --> private
[ DiMA does note that the conversation is privated, and so pays close attention... until he realizes Connor may have misinterpreted him. ]
I see. I did mean what could I do to be of assistance with the project, but that's good to know in the event that you're damaged and cannot communicate your needs yourself. Thank you for trusting me with the information. For mine, and perhaps my brother's. I can send you a detailed list... some of my augmentations don't seem to exist here, and I would like to have spares. I'm unfortunately a bit fragile, though I've avoided significant damage so far.
