[ Some time later, the battered Inquisitor appears over the network, not looking much different physically save for the obvious green light that makes its way into the picture, reflected in her dark eyes. Her expression is an attempt at concealing an agonizing pain, so her mouth is drawn into a tight, thin line, brow occasionally twitching downward. ]

I think it's settled... That is, I don't think it's expanding anymore. [ "And isn't going to kill me, yet." ] But, if there's anyone who has healing abilities, or... some medicine to dull the absurd amount of hurt it's doing, I really would like to speak with you. I'm considering just chopping off my hand, but I don't think the thing would go without a fight.

[ Cecily starts to move to end the call, but she glances downward and mutters: ]

It's still dangerous. I've got to do something to get the flare-ups under control, too. [ She then looks upward, exhausted, and adds: ] Don't come and investigate the mysterious lights, if you see them. Unless you like... I don't know, intense nerve pain. In that case, come over; we'll shake hands.

okay, tell me again what's so special about a hot springs?
they make hot water pools.
that's it?

you got a few screws loose if you think it's better than real TREES and FRUIT.

[ But, she's not going to be completely throwing the other choices under the bus... ]

Hey, listen up. I’ve got an idea.

[Evidently a very important one, judging by how soberly he’s speaking.]

Obviously we need things to do in between gettin’ set on fire and havin’ our heads messed with. So I was gonna set up a card table in the bar—could be poker, faro, anything if we can get enough players for it. If people like it, we could make it a regular thing.

If you don’t know how to play, I’ll teach you. And if anybody knows any other games, I’d like to see ‘em.

So I got a question.

[ He drags a hand down his face; he's tired and not entirely sure why he has to be the one to ask this. But apparently he has to be the one to ask this because he's worried and people should be informed.

But seriously, this is so far out of his comfort zone that we're in the Andromeda galaxy, so just... give him a second. He's not used to talking about this to the mass public.
]

How many of you've had something shitty from home show up here? [ .... Sigh. Okay. Too vague. Try again.

-- Once again, he does not like this.
] And by something I mean a creature, a being, some fucker you never wanted to see again. Not some person you've decided is the scum of the Earth- [ here's lookin' at you, Ruby. And yes, he means that rather purposefully ] - because i'm not up here to ask you about that chick you didn't like that one time who's made an entrance.

I mean monsters. Shit that does more than go bump in the night. Because if we all start bringing this kinda crap from where we come from, we're gonna have a problem and not nearly enough people are gonna know what to do with it. I mean, just counting what could come outta my own world-- [ grumble grumble. ]

So what I wanna know is if this's happened more than once. We already got enough here to keep track of, I just wanna know if anything that people know more about's followed you here.

[ The man who appears on screen is wearing white hospital clothes, despite attempts to get him into something a little more him. They're comfortable, he protests. Over this he's wearing a much loved and heavily dry-cleaned (thanks, Dean) beige colored coat, the combination of the two making him look like a businessman - or perhaps a P.I. - who's had a little bit of a mental breakdown. Which...it's not far off from the truth.

In any case, he's sitting in the dark, looking drawn and tired, like he's either been trying very hard not to sleep, or the sleep hasn't been very good. It's a combination of the two, actually.
]

Did you know that human minds are most susceptible to influence when you're dreaming? If you wanted to teach yourselves how to communicate telepathically, for instance, it would be far better to do it when you're sleeping, when your brain isn't fettered by the constant needs of your body. Itching. Twitching. Fidgeting. All its aches and grumbles and complaints. Emotions. Recollections. Listening to other people chatter incessantly. Television. Arousal. You get the idea. It's all very distracting.

[ Seriously. Who let Castiel talk? Like ever.]

And let me tell you, some of those thoughts take up a lot of your time.

I--where was I? Ah. That is to say, I haven't ever slept before. I've visited dreams, of course, but experiencing my own is something else entirely. Something I'd rather avoid, if it's at all possible. So-- [ Deep breath. ] --I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. Mnemonics, perhaps. The opposite of counting sheep. I'd drink coffee but I'm afraid I've discovered it has much the same effect on me as alcohol, which is to say I'd have to drink most of a plantation in order to have any kind of success.

Your assistance, please. I can't repay you, per se, but... Oh. [ He lifts his hands in front of him, and cups them together, and when he lifts them apart there is a little origami swan between his palms. ] I can do this.

Some of you just can't seem to stop being upset over my methods. While I'm sure Rage is more than happy to let this continue, I'm here to propose a compromise.

I've noticed that many of you feel fear while asleep. After a time, I've discerned that this is due to hallucinations occurring while you are immobile, and I've decided to allow you all to experience more of these frightful hallucinations.

I think that sounds workable. You aren't put into any real physical danger, and I still get power. And, if you can see one another's hallucinations then you'll have more people who frightened of the same thing, which makes my job easier in the long run.

A handsome compromise, yes? Good?

Done.

Tomorrow afternoon, we're hosting a class on the clinic on how to stabilize an injured person and then safely move the body, in an environment where the dead come back to life and where there's no serious expectation of sophisticated medical care.

It's going to be utilitarian and potentially grimly upsetting, but I suggest anyone with any kind of a stomach for it come to the clinic for noon. If you're conservative about touch, please bring a partner who you trust to manhandle you in body-lifting exercises. Of course you're welcome to opt out of that portion of the day, if need be.

Please bring donations of any medical supplies, if you can.

If you're new to Hadriel in the last couple of months, I'm Doctor Banner, I'm one of the clinic volunteers. I'm not technically a medical doctor, but since we lost Doctor Pierce, beggars can't be choosers. We've already covered wound care, risk of infection, and stitches and suturing. I'm happy to link you to that material, go over any of it in person, or continue stitching lessons for anyone who needs a refresher. If you'd like to see about volunteering in the clinic, please speak to me here, or get in contact with Kate- she's considerably more organized and better about the follow-through than I am.

So uh... Hey everyone. Again.

[He could probably get a better opening line, but whatever. Moving on.]

I know like, a bunch of people just arrived so... Welcome, I guess. We're still working on the newbie's guide to waking up in a cave-city run by gods, but until then like, if you have any questions I can try and help? Also uh, it's probably safe at this point and we're just being paranoid, but you may want to avoid eating any meat products you find here. For reasons.

[MOVING ON.]

Also uh, sort of related, but I was thinking that maybe before next month we should really... Plan some way to help out? I mean, people just sort of show up and half the time there's monsters too, and... Maybe some sort of organized thing for helping the new people not get like, eaten or whatever would be a good idea.

[This is not exactly his area of expertise, so if other people want to take charge on this he's more than happy to let them, but otherwise he'll try and figure something out. It really seems like something important to get established.]

In uh, a rare moment of good news though, the whole coffee thing worked out. So if you want coffee there's some at Delight's bar now, though you'll have to like... Be kind of patient with me and the others being possibly terrible baristas. Still kind of getting the hang of the whole thing.

[But surely coffee itself is well worth any less-than-practiced customer service; they're at least pretty good at making coffee, including somewhat elaborate drinks, and as far as Chris is aware they're all trying. That's what counts, right?

Right?]

I think that's about it, except for that like... If anyone's curious, the handheld games from the arena this month are just normal games. I thought maybe they'd be some sort of weird alien-versions of them, but I guess not; I took one apart and it was all the expected stuff inside it.

That said I'm totally betting I can beat anyone's high scores.
